Walk in the Parks

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” Genesis 2:15

We have a wonderful park system in Memphis. Tom Lee Park is a national treasure. Overton Park’s golf course, greenspace, and old forest blend well with the Memphis Zoo and the current Brooks Museum. Audobon Park has completed it’s massive golf course renovation, opened Leftwich Tennis Center, and has housed the Memphis Botanic Garden for years.

When you look at the org chart for Memphis Parks, the citizens are the leaders. That’s pretty cool. They steward 5600 acres in 192 locations. https://memphisparks.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Memphis-Parks-Executive-Summary.pdfThis number doesn’t count other state parks like T. O. Fuller located within the city limits.

Lord, bless this land. May these parks serve as places of community and refreshment. Bless the workers who are responsible for ensuring cleanliness and safety at these parks. May they be places for celebration with friends and family. Lord, may the citizens of Memphis recognize the blessing these parks are to our community and steward them appropriately. In Christ’s name, amen.
