In the World, but not of the World

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

You adulterous people,[a] don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. – James 4:3-4

Lord, we lift up the city to you tonight. May we seek you with right motives, pure desires, cleansed and born of the Holy Spirit. We pray for peace in our city and shalom in our neighborhoods. Lord, give strength and courage to Your children, that we may be lights in the city.

Lord, we lift up Agape Family Services, as they connect with families to provide support, encouragement, and consistency. Thank you for their leadership, like David Jordan and Julie Sanon, who provide steady hands over an organization operating in this world, but is not of or for this world. Lord, thank you for the team members who work every day, forgoing the riches of this life to build up treasures in the next. May their light grow brighter. Lord, guide their board of directors, with Tim Burleson serving as Board Chair, to be faithful to the mission and vision You have for the organization. Bless Agape’s ministries in housing, child and family services including adoption and foster care, battling homelessness, improving educational outcomes, work readiness and workforce development, and spiritual formation.

Specifically, we ask You to hear the prayers coming from these communities and partners working with and through Agape, that the Holy Spirit provide sustenance and guidance in providing space for our neighbors to flourish.
