31 Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written:
“‘I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’[c]
32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
33 Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”
34 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”
35 But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same. – Matthew 26: 31-35
I’ve been feeling like Peter. We live and walk alongside the Lord, with confidence, only to sin as soon as we leave His side. This Holy Week, I want to learn about Peter and how he responded to his lowest moments in his walk with Jesus. Without Peter’s trials, he would not have been prepared to proclaim Jesus as he did. From the shame we may feel at our lowest, build us back up Lord.
Lord, encourage Your followers. May Your body remember the meaning of Easter. May I remember the meaning of Jesus’s death and resurrection.
We’re torn apart Lord. Between the sin we struggle with on our own to our disagreements on what is sin in the public sphere, the adversary has sown division. Heal us Lord. We are sick. We have sick communities. We have communities that don’t value life. We have communities that don’t know how special they are. But You do.
Raise up a generation Lord seeking You, that can bring folks to the table and break bread, share gospel love with one another. Start in Memphis this week. Open doors during this Holy Week. Spark conversations at Maundy Thursday services across Shelby County. May your people respond to the damaged communities of Wynne, AR and Covington, TN. Put the right people in front of those who need to see Christ at work. Bless the work of Convoy of Hope and Samaritan’s Purse.
I don’t always have the words Lord, but I pray the Holy Spirit is interceding on my behalf for our city and our nation now. In Your Name, Amen.
