Prayers for Memphis

Lord, I thank you for the ability to petition you in prayer. I am thankful that you require nothing from us except a broken spirit and a contrite heart.

I am thankful that I don’t need to travel thousands of miles to a temple to be in your presence because you are omnipresent, even dwelling in those of us who have placed our trust in you.

Thank you for mediating between me and your Father. Thank you for offering the sacrifice necessary for my prayers to be received by your father.

Thank you for hearing the prayers of the righteous and the unrighteous, and thank you for the fact that the prayers of those who are found to be righteous in you are effective in your kingdom!

I ask that you would forgive me for the times that I have neglected to pray when I should have and that you’d forgive me for times when I’ve ignored the answers you’ve given for the prayers you received from me.

I ask that you would empower me to be a prayer warrior for those who cannot pray for themselves and that you would give me the boldness and wisdom to pray in your name wherever and whenever I pray.

Provide me with opportunities to pray for others, to pray with others, and to teach others how to pray.

Allow me to continue yielding to your will. In the name of Jesus, I pray!

Today I would like to share one of my favorite messages from Robert Nolands “40 day Devotional for Men”. Today I would like to share one of my favorite messages from Robert Nolands “40 day Devotional for Men”. I hope this finds you well! “Professional team sports are a mainstay in our culture’s entertainment. There’s a strong likelihood that you follow at least one sport, even in the offseason. Whether eleven on the football field, nine on the baseball diamond, five on the court, or even the one NASCAR driver with the pit crew looking on, offense and defense are equally crucial aspects in any sport. A team can have an amazing offense, but if there is weak defense the team can still lose. And vice versa. We all know that consistent winners score points on offense and stop points on defense.

God through His Word has given us thousands of life principles to live by – for offense and defense”.

Here are some examples to carry into your relationships:

Offense: Proverbs 27:17: As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.

Defense: Proverbs 3:27: Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.

    God bless!

    Heavenly Father,

We praise and glorify Your name for Your power and authority over all things. You are the great and mighty King, who reigns over all the earth (1 Chronicles 29:11). Your strength and might are displayed throughout the heavens and the earth. Your right hand is glorious in power, shattering your enemies (Exodus15:6).

We come to You today, asking for Your help in the face of fear that grips our city. We pray for the strength and courage to stand strong in the face of violence and danger. We know that You have promised to be with us always, (Joshua 1:9), and You have given us a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7).

We trust in Your protection and provision, and ask that You would give us the courage and strength to face each day with hope and confidence in Your goodness and grace. We pray for peace and safety in our city, and for Your justice to prevail.

We pray for the protection of all the people living in Memphis and for your guidance for the authorities and law enforcement agencies to keep the city safe.

We trust in You, Lord, and we know that You are greater than any fear or danger. We give You all the glory and praise, now and forever. Amen.

  • Brothers

Text from a friend, no, a brother, this morning: “My Brothers, Mark Linton wrote: A real man is the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says Oh Crap, he’s up! Brother, life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat u…

Text from a friend, no, a brother, this morning:

“My Brothers, Mark Linton wrote: A real man is the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says Oh Crap, he’s up! Brother, life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat u right. Forgive the ones who don’t just because you can. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Take a few minutes to think before u act when you’re mad . Forgive quickly. God never said life would be easy . He just promised it would be worth it. Today is Brother’s day, send this to all your brothers, fathers, sons and me if I am one.”

Lord, thank you for all of our brothers. May we encourage each other, love one another, and sustain one another. May we our brotherly bonds flourish as we meet new ones in time. Amen.

Proverbs 17:17, NIV: A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

1 Samuel 18:1 King James Bible Version

And it came to pass when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day and would let him go no more home to his father’s house. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant because he loved him as his own soul.

  • Candlelight

“Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:15, 16. The following passage…

“Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

    Matthew 5:15, 16.

The following passage is taken form the Charles Spurgeon sermon, “The Candle”

Do not deceive yourselves with the notion of national Christianity or hereditary Christianity—the only true religion is personal godliness. We cannot light these candles by the pound at a time, nor heap
up lamps in a pile and light them in a mass. We have, nowadays, wonderful lights which can be all lit in an instant by a single touch of electricity—but even then each one of the lights has to receive a flame for itself—which becomes all its own. There is no way by which individuality can be destroyed and men saved en masse. In each man the light is peculiar and distinct. The light that burns in one true minister of Christ is the same which shines forth from another and yet one star differs from another star in glory—Peter is not John, Paul is not James, Whitefield is not Wesley. You shall examine the whole range of God’s lamps and candlesticks and you shall not find two exactly alike. Many artists exhaust themselves and then repeat themselves, but God is inexhaustibly original—no two touches of His pencil are the same. Light is one and its glory is one—and yet there is one glory of the sun and another glory of the moon and another glory of the stars. There is a difference in the lights of various oils and gases and so there is in your light, my brothers and sisters, and my light. It is very possible that you would like to put my candle in order—you may do so if you can—but do not snuff me out! Your own light is, however, your main concern and you had better ask for special grace that it may not fail. Your light is distinct from mine—as distinct as your life is from mine—though, in another sense, it is true that your spiritual light is one with all the light that ever shone in this world. There is in the lighting, a personal appropriation of the divine flame and afterwards a personal and distinct sending forth of the sacred light in the individual’s own way. Look you well to this, lest you be mistaken and suppose yourselves to be lighted from heaven when you are the mere will-o’-the-wisps of delusion.

Lord, we have light amongst us. I pray we lift it up, place them on top of the bushel basket. Tonight, we lift up those individuals and unnamed ministries shining forth in our communities. We pray for Eikon and Binghampton house churches. We pray for the elders of neighborhoods praying for their neighbors and providing food and shelter for those in need. We pray for those seeking Light, your Light, Lord, that we may show them the way.

Lord, we don’t not need earthly accolades to do Your work, but we do pray for alignment with the Holy Spirit, strength, encouragement, and protection form the adversary.

Lord, we also pray that Blue Cross Blue Shield and Methodist Healthcare come to a fair resolution quickly so that care can be provided without significant monetary costs to those who need it most. In your name, Amen.
