16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. – Hebrews 4:16
Many schools remained closed today and the boil water advisory is still in effect. From the MLGW website, “Over the past week MLGW has located and repaired more than 56 broken water mains, responded to more than 4,000 customers, residential and commercial, that reported broken pipes and shut off nearly 100 fire suppression systems to keep them from bursting or to help limit the damage from already broken pipes.”
Thankfully, the roads are improving and temperatures are ablve freezing.
Lord, tonight we lift up the MLGW crews working to fix our water lines. We pray that they are able to identify the issues and fix them quickly. We pray for endurance and stamina for the men and women working around the clock to solve the issue. We pray for leadership, Doug McGowen, and others, to make wise decisions in allocating resources.
Lord, we lift up our neighbors who are in need. May we be Your hands and feet, our baskets overflowing with Your provision for them. Lord, may we open ourselves up to the cries of those suffering, that we may offer some respite. Lord, thank you for those reaching the people, like the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity men who made soup this past weekend.
COntinue to melt this ice Lord and restore functionality to these utilities. May we be better prepared for the next winter storm based on lessons learned this week. We pray for the restaurants, that they may recover lost income by folks celebrating the ability to leave their home.
Lord, bless this town. In Christ’s name, Amen.

We may get north of freezing temps tomorrow. Memphis is covered in snow and wind chills are below zero. I’m thankful for those opening doors to those in worse-off conditions and checking on seniors. I had a neighbor check on me. Tonight, I’m sure Room in the Inn and the Hospitality Hub are full. I pray that those seeking shelter find it.
Lord, thank you for the https://www.hospitalityhub.org/ and those working to provide shelter for those without it. We lift up the volunteers and employees loving on those entering into their facility. Bless Kelcey Johnson with the resources and relationships needed to help those in her care. Lord, may those who need escape from the cold find relief in the warming shelters. Lord, help get them there. (Info below, dear reader.)

Lord, bless the work of Room in the Inn. May those families find comfort and peace. Grant this organization, employees, and volunteers the hearts needed to share God’s love with those coming for help. Protect the congregational shelter listed here and guide those in need to it:

May they not be forgotten. Bless the roofs and those underneath it. Keep the heat on.
Lord, open our eyes to the needs of those around us. May we live boldly and step out in faith to help our fellow man. Lord, cover Your children with a hedge of protection from the evil one. Nudge us Lord to take action in Your name.
Lord, we pray for this cold to pass without damage. May the roads hold up and pipes not burst. We pray this for Memphis and the surrounding areas. We pray for patience for the interruption of our routine. Lord, may we take this time to seek You. In Christ’s name, amen.

Ja is not meant to be a Savior. None of us are.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. – Psalm 20:7
Ja Morant is out for the season. He just got back. He brought life, excitement, and most of all, hope, for a team that all of Memphis backs. It’s devastating if we look at it through worldly eyes. What’s the Lord have in store for this team and for Ja?
The Memphis Grizzlies hold a special place in the hearts of Memphians. They reflect the city, playing with a chip on their shoulder, proudly putting in the work and being rough around the edges. Z-Bo captured the essence when he said, “It’s a blue collar town and I’m a blue collar player, a hard worker.” He went from Portland troublemaker to beloved Memphis legend. We were hoping Ja’s self-proclaimed redemption tour was part of his growth process.
And now this.
I feel a little strange praying for the Grizzlies. They are professional athletes. They are entertainers. They are adored and paid well. But they are also people, and all people need Jesus. They need to know that their identity is not found in their status, not in championships (though admittedly fun), or in being Ja’s alley-oop partner. It’s more than that. You, dear reader, are more than what you do or who you associate with. You are made in the image of Christ, a beloved child of God, sons and daughters of the Most High.
Yes, Ja is weapon on the court, but that’s a game. We will miss him and pray for swift recovery, but more importantly, I pray that he knows that he is loved whether or not he ever plays at that level again.
Dear Lord, for the city of Memphis, remind us of your steadfast love. Remind us that our hope is not found in our collective aspirations for a basketball team. Remind us Lord that we should care more for the person wearing a jersey than what they are able to do while in it.
We do lift up the Grizzlies organization to you. You know how much of a blessing that team is to the community. We pray that the team comes together and becomes a sum greater than their individual parts. We pray Coach Jenkins and his staff continue to find ways to motivate and encourage the team. We pray, that as fans, we find ways to encourage and motivate the team. We pray for full recoveries for Ja, Stephen Adams, Brandon Clarke, and several others. We also lift them up to You, that they seek You in this time when they are not able to use their athletic gifts that you created them with. Grant them patience. Lord, may we place our faith in You. Amen.

Seeking Peace and Prosperity for Memphis
“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Jeremiah 29:7 Jeremiah instructed the nation of Israel to work for the benefit of Babylon when they were exiled. This world is not our…

“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Jeremiah 29:7
Jeremiah instructed the nation of Israel to work for the benefit of Babylon when they were exiled.
This world is not our home. We are made for more, better. Eden isn’t fantasy. Man fell and with us fell the world. But our call does not end. We must adjust to what’s around us, without becoming part of the world.
Lord, we know there is a better Memphis to be found than one filling headlines with death and destruction. May we repent of generational sin and heal from generational trauma. Link up Your children to bring light and life to this city. Open doors for Your Kingdom’s work in 2024. Bless the new mayor, Paul Young, and his administration in their work. Remind them that they don’t have to be the saviors. We already have one, if we would just turn to Him.
Lord, stop the killing and stealing of life and property in Memphis. Open our eyes to where each of us can provide for our neighbors, children of God, this coming year. May we seek the peace and prosperity of Memphis. In Christ’s Name, amen.

11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. – Luke 2:11
Christmas Day has come and gone but our celebration does not end.
Lord, we pray for revival in our own hearts and in our community. We pray for Memphis to know Jesus this coming year. We pray that we trust in you, walk in faith, and bring light to the darkness.
Lord, may these next few days be a time of reflection for us. May we seek Your will for 2024. Where can we serve the Kingdom? What are you calling each of us to do?
I pray for the prayer meetings and church’s fostering relationship with God the Father. Encourage those attending. Lord, hear prayers and deliver miracles.
Lord, for Memphis, I pray for a path to righteousness and not death and destruction. How can we help the lost understand their worth as a child of God? Teach us.
In Christ’s name, Amen
