Seeking Him and Carrying Out His Commandments

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

1 John 5:1-5

Tonight, Lord, look down on Memphis and be present. Lord, we ask that the Holy Spirit soften hearts that have been distant from You that You may enter in. We thank you for the decrease in homicides but we mourn over the ever-present violence in too many lives. Lord, bless Mayor Paul Young and Interim Chief CJ Davis in their work to lead and protect the city.

We pray our elected Memphis Shelby County School board members and Superintendent Marie Feagins are who our students need. Sort it out, Lord, and may those doing the sorting seek You. We pray for humble spirits and the truth to be known in working through these disagreements and controversy. May you turn this public ugliness into something good.

Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to worship You in the open. I pray for guidance on the future of this website. I ask you to tell me if and how to share it so that You are honored.

In Christ’s name, Amen.
